GroupThink

Since "groupthink" has generally been used as a pejorative term, probably we want to come up with a different term for the sense of community and collective work we want to create in the Wasteflake Project.

Perhaps we want to create a sense of collective ownership; not "this is my bit, dont touch it" or "that's not my bit, it's not my problem" but "this is ours, let's all work on it together to make it as good as possible." This does allow for having a greater interest in some parts of the project than others ("this is the bit which especially interests me, so I'm going to spend most of my effort on it") but keeps it in the perspective of the entire project.

Other possibilities:
  • gelled team
  • sense of community

Disinfopedia Groupthink page
Groupthink is "a concept that ... refers to faulty decision-making in a group. Groups experiencing groupthink do not consider all alternatives and they desire unanimity at the expense of quality decisions."

GroupThink (from the PortlandPatternRepository)
"When a team becomes enamored of consensus and creates a working environment where disagreement is discouraged, GroupThink emerges. Members start agreeing with everything out of habit."

GroupThink from Meatball Wiki
"GroupThink is absolutely not collective intelligence. In CollectiveIntelligence, decisions are taken or opinions are set up by a group of people in such a way you can't distinguish an individual as the "author" of the decision or the opinion."

Why Wiki Works
"Interesting and interested people; civility and community without sacrificing dissent. ... Wikizens are by nature a pedantic, ornery, and unreasonable bunch. So there's a camaraderie and understanding here we seldom see outside of our professional contacts."
